Good Idea #1 Plan for a natural childbirth with active and alert participation by the mother.
Good Idea #2 Offer your baby the breast within the first hour after birth.

"Right after birth, within the first hour of life, normal infants have a prolonged period of quiet alertnes, averaging forty minutes, during which they look directly at their mother's and father's face and eyes and can respond to voices. It is as though newborns rehearsed the perfect approach to the first meeting with their parents."

Good Idea #3 Bring pillows from home to support mother's body for good positioning.
Good Idea #4 Learn how your baby communicates to you to tell you she/he is hungry and when she/he is finished feeding.
Good Idea #5 Learn how to make enough milk. It's easy! Simply empty the breast.
Good Idea #6 Keep your baby in your room. Nurse frequently, 8-10 times every 24 hours.
Good Idea #7 Know where to go for information and support.
